Missouri

Our goal of visiting the Continental United States, as a couple, is complete!! It's been such an incredible opportunity to explore the 48 and fall in love with each one. You can find our picture in each state here. We've never been prouder to be Americans-- this country is truly the land that we love.

Plans were made to make it to Minnesota, with my dad and brothers + families, for Thanksgiving over a year ago and we simply couldn't pass up the chance to extend the trip and visit to our last state, Missouri. We drove from Colorado and made sure to indulge in some Kansas City BBQ our first night which didn't disappoint.  We also spent time at the Independence Visitor center and saw the Community of Christ Temple. As we walked into the Visitor Center, there was a large Christus on display and the kids sat so reverently listening to the words of his divinity. As we toured downstairs the kids found a statue of Joseph Smith and McKay hugged his leg.  From all we know about Joseph Smith and his playful demeanor with children, it was beyond precious to see McKay's fondness for the Prophet. Being at Liberty Jail, it was hard to find words to explain why people would be so mean to a man who was doing what Heavenly Father asked of him.

From Liberty, we made it to Far West where we found the four cornerstones of the temple site

^^and Adam Ondi Ahman where I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it's importance, but could feel the Spirit all the same.

St. Louis was our last stop in the state and we got tickets to ride the tram to the top of the Gateway Arch less than 10 minutes before they sold out. It was eerie and remarkable to be 630 feet high in the tallest man-made monument in the country, in a tiny walkway, looking out tiny windows at the city below.

Thanks Missouri, for being the perfect place to complete our goal!!
And don't worry Hawaii + Alaska, we'll get to you...someday.
